About

The CSJ Institute embodies the spirit, mission, and values that have shaped Mount Saint Mary’s University since its founding by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1925. Grounded in the CSJ commitment to responding to the needs of the time, the Institute ensures that this powerful legacy remains a living, guiding force for today’s students and for generations to come.

Carrying Forward the CSJ Mission 💜
The CSJ Institute serves as a bridge between Mount Saint Mary’s founding traditions and the evolving needs of our modern world. Through educational programs, reflection opportunities, and community engagement, the Institute invites students, faculty, staff, and alumni to explore what it means to lead with compassion, integrity, and a spirit of service rooted in caring for our “dear neighbor.”

Rooted in the CSJ charism of unifying love, the Institute helps the Mount community integrate our CSJ values by encouraging thoughtful dialogue, ethical leadership, and meaningful service that responds to the needs of our global and local communities.

Formation, Leadership, and Service 🌟
Through the annual pilgrimage to Le Puy, speakers, service-learning initiatives, and leadership development opportunities, the CSJ Institute supports holistic formation that nurtures both personal growth and social awareness. These experiences empower students to reflect on their values, deepen their sense of purpose, and put the CSJ charism into practice through lives of service and leadership.

By fostering spaces for reflection and engagement with our Sisters, the Institute helps students and community members understand how CSJ values can guide them professionally, civically, and spiritually.

Why Your Support Matters 🤝
On Mount Day of Giving, your support of the CSJ Institute helps sustain the mission at the heart of Mount Saint Mary’s University. Gifts make it possible to expand mission‑centered programming, support student formation experiences, and preserve the rich legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph as a vital presence on campus.

Your generosity ensures that the values of unity, service, and justice continue to inspire Mount students to lead with purpose and to carry the CSJ spirit into the world as compassionate, thoughtful leaders.
